PONTE VEDRA INN & CLUB Website
200 Ponte Vedra Blvd.
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32082
904/285-6911
This resort
has two eighteen hole courses. The traditional Ocean Course is open
and has small greens. It is scenic and well bunkered. The wind
frequently comes into play, so proper club selection is a big part
of the game. This club boasts of having built the first island green
ever. The Lagoon Course is the easier of the two courses, but it is
tighter. There is water that comes into play on thirteen holes. This
course is good for the higher handicap golfer. The Ryder Cup was to
be held here in 1941, but had to be canceled because World War II
broke out. You must be a guest of the hotel or a guest of a member
to play the course.

SAWGRASS COUNTRY CLUB Website
10034 Golf Club Drive
Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida 32082
904/285-2261
This private
resort has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen
hole combinations. The resort was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998
list of "Silver Medal Resorts." The South Course has water hazards
in play on eight holes. This course is sheltered by the wind, so
it's not as difficult as the other eighteen holes. The West/East
Course was built in 1973 and is the original layout. The South
Course was added in 1984. The East/West Course is more difficult
because the wind is a major factor, and water hazards are in play on
all but three holes. "Golf Digest" rated this course 68th under the
1996 category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." The West
Course's signature hole is #6, a 198-yard, par 3, requiring a shot
to a peninsula green. You must be a guest of a member or a guest at
the Marriott at Sawgrass in order to play these courses.

TPC AT SAWGRASS WebSite
110 TPC Boulevard
Ponte Vedra, Florida 32082
904/273-3236
This club features two outstanding eighteen hole courses. The Stadium Course is a target design
that features water coming into play on almost every hole. This course was considered the debut
of stadium golf, with plenty of pot bunkers and moguls to make even professionals squeal. The
signature hole is #17, a 132-yard, par 3, which is one of the most well-known island greens in
golf. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 2nd "Best Public Course" in the state for the years
1995-98. "GOLF Magazine" chose this course 7th in the category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play
in the U.S." for 1998. The same publication selected it 48th among the "Top 100 Courses in the
U.S." for 1995, and 39th in 1997 and 33rd for 1999. "GOLFWEEK" chose the Stadium Course 19th
under the category of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 14th for 1998 and 15th
for 1999. Pete Dye redesigned the Stadium Course in 1983.
The Valley Course is a bit milder than its sister course, but it has more undulation
in the fairways than the Stadium Course. There are water hazards that come into play on every
hole, and the greens are large. Because this facility is situated only one mile from the ocean,
the wind can become a major factor. The Valley Course has hosted the Vantage Aces Shoot Out
and the Seniors' Tour. GOLF Magazine" chose this course 98th in the category of the "Top 100
Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1998. This club annually hosts the PGA TOUR's Players
Championship.
These courses are only available to guests of
the Sawgrass Marriott Resorts Hotel and TPC
members. |

ST. JOHNS GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB Website
205 St. Johns Golf Drive
St. Augustine, FL 32902
(904) 940-3200
St. Johns is located just two miles west of I-95 on County Road 210, fifteen miles south of Jacksonville.
A par 72, 7,236-yard golf course that epitomizes balance, St. Johns fits comfortably in its secluded environment -- at least until the 799-unit Arvida development surrounding it is complete, but even then a handful of holes will remain away from the housing.
Designer Clyde Johnston has imbued St. Johns
with just enough of his own touches that it makes a noteworthy
statement. St. Johns is a mix of natural minimalism in places and
man-made engineering in others. When there is evidence of
construction, Johnston and crew have done their shaping softly and
roundly; the course blends gracefully into the surrounding
environment and there are few abrupt movements except for the
bulkheads that transition land and water near several of the greens.
